My mom and I had the great honor of meeting Ms. Bertha Sadler Means at her namesake school. She was a fierce civil rights activist, talented educator, and wonderful human being.

Victory night! Arati becomes the first Indian- or Asian-American to be elected to the Austin ISD school board.

Arati often leans on her trustee “sisters” from Leander ISD (Gloria Gonzalez-Dholakia) and from Round Rock ISD (Tiffanie Harrison) to share ideas and support.

After recent antisemitic and homophobic graffiti was found at one of our high schools, Arati immediately convened a community listening session, and was honored to speak at the Rally for Kindness—calling for all of us to be upstanders.

Central Texas trustees, along with Council Member Vanessa Fuentes, gathered a day after announcing a mask mandate in our schools. United, we were stood strong against the governor’s stance.

Arati organized a food/water/supply drive for a mobile home community in Oak Hill. Several Oak Hill ES staff showed up to serve their students who live in the community.

Arati showed up at Brook ES the day after the vote to close it. She brought a cake and lots of hugs to the community.

Arati voted to approve the first trilingual Spanish-Mandarin-English program in Austin ISD. Here she is with Joslin Elementary principal Mr. ChaoLin Chang, Council Member Alison Alter, Dr. Libby Doggett, and some wonderful community members!

Central Texas trustees and chamber of commerce folks collaborate to increase college enrollment and industry certification to meet regional workforce needs.
